Since 1 July 2003 the application of the Atex directives (Directive 2014/34/EU) has been compulsory on all new extraction systems or on extraction systems in use, which are subject to alterations and not in compliance. Atex (ATmosphere EXplosive) concerns all environments in which appliances must be used in potentially explosive areas, either for the presence of dust or gas.
The legislation requires that "the end user must know the environment in which the appliances are installed and the characteristics of the processed material, through the classification" therefore, the assessment should be provided both in the present case directly in the form of gases, vapours, mists or dust, as well as waste of the process itself.
For the realization of air extraction systems the user must indicate the nature of what was stated beforehand, providing the features of the material and its particle size, in order to take the necessary precautions to prevent the formation of potentially explosive atmosphere and ignition, in order to protect workers according to Atex Directives. The necessary protections are specified on the basis of the Kst value (coefficient of the explosive power of the material inferred from the type of contaminant, or specifically provided by the analysis of the product).
